Jenni Lawson Number of years in role: 9 |
What do you do?
I work for SalesForce – one of Australia’s largest outsourcing companies. My role is with a White Goods manufacturer and I train and coach the guys in my team.
What results are expected in your position?
Hopefully the guys in my team will exceed KPIs! More importantly to me I hope they gain some industry and life experience and enjoy themselves. I enjoy seeing people grow.
What has been your biggest career highlight to date?
Managing a front line team of between 50 and 70 staff for Ansett.
What is the best and worst thing about your job?
Best – the people. The worst – the people!
Any tips on how to get and stay ahead?
They are old adages; ‘The speed of the boss is the speed of the crew’ and ‘Get in before your boss and leave after him or her’. I think that worked for me. Oh, and smile!
How do you encourage loyalty with your staff and clients?
Being true to them. Honesty – sometimes it can hurt. I think you get more out of people when you tell them the truth about their performance or situation.
What do you think employees want from their employer?
Security. The room to grow.
What does your company do for its staff that you feel is different from what other companies provide?
Do you know anything about SalesForce? I have long held the thought it’s a bit like your parents have gone away for the weekend and you’re running a muck. Somehow it not only all works; it’s fun too. In my 12 years of being here, I do feel a little like the ‘parent’ and less of the child. Only a little, may I add.
What are the biggest human capital issues your industry is dealing with? …and what should be done about it?
Training the trainers! More could be done to get affiliations for coaches and trainers and I am not simply referring to government accreditation.
